Church of Santa María de Gonzar

The majestic church of Santa María de Gonzar rises up in the parish of Gonzar. It is a baroque building located in a setting of great beauty, beside the former rectory and one of the most singular stone crosses in the municipality of O Pino.

Close to the high altar, there is the tomb of Josefa de la Torre, also known as “A espiritada” (The Ghost-Like One) or “The Sick Woman of Gonzar,” a mysterious woman who is supposed to have gone without eating or drinking for 30 years, thereby acquiring the reputation of a saint.
