Pazo de Liñares

Baroque “pazo” founded in the 17th century by Álvaro Núñez Taboada. It was inhabited until the early 20th century, although it was only used as a holiday home during the previous century. It has an L-shape ground plan and inside it features an antechamber (where Joaquín Loriga was christened), a library, a showcase with armaments and a Romanesque baptismal font. It also has a large running balcony and outside it features a chapel, staff houses, two ovens, a shed, an “hórreo” (stone granary) and a dovecot. The garden’s main features are a large cypress tree, a magnolia and a fountain.

This palace was the birthplace, in 1895, of Joaquín Loriga, who is renowned for flying in 1926 from Madrid to Manila in 17 stages and 33 days. It has been completely restored but is not being used yet. In 2009, it was declared a Property of Cultural Interest.
